Kids and Water

2018 06 22 (100)

There is something about water that is irresistible to a young child. It is cold, fluid and there is an unlimited supply. All of it equals fun. Learning about these things while in the forest is a valuable part of education. I remember spending may hours digging little trenches in the dirt and running water water down the miniature ditches. We built dams and carefully watch as they failed. It was useful information when, as a teenager, I flood irrigated field of grain and sugar beets.

Flag Raising at the Dayton Hamfest

2018 05 18 (28) Dayton Hamfest, Flag Raising2018 05 18 (35) Dayton Hamfest, Flag Raising

Every year, there is a ham radio festival in Xenia, near Dayton, Ohio, with thousands of booths, displays, and vendors, all dealing with various aspects of Amateur Radio. I took many photos but this was the most interesting. Hams are both national and international. They support their country, their  local and national governments, and spread goodwill to all nations. Sometimes, a ham radio operator will talk to someone on the other side of the world, and he can do it with only 100 watts of power. To learn more, go to ARRL.org.
